the birth of Keelie Ani

So, many asked/commented on FB how was my birthing experience with Keelie. Well, it was a saga.

Some of you may remember that I had a c-section with Zeph, not by choice, but because I live in a country where 85% of births are c-sections and my doctor was not patient, nor I believe competent enough to allow me to suffer for the sake of a life being born...he definitely had an affliction for seeing women in THAT much pain.

Nevertheless, with this baby, I was certain on having a VBAC, and I found an AMAZING doctor whose whole profession is fighting against the grain here. I knew going in there was a possibility that I would not be able to try to have a normal birth, but being that my doctor said the possibility was very low, about 20%, I was certain I would not enter into that category.

I was wrong. At 37 weeks I had an ultrasound done and found that my scar segment was 33mm wide. I couldn't remember the limit my doctor had told me before, but I was a little nervous. His limit is 0.5 cm. He said I was the first case all year; and it was the end of October. We were all so bummed. I think my doctor just as much as we were. He is like a dad - just to be able to see him often, I would contemplate having another kid...wait. no. no, maybe I'll just see him on my runs in the future, when/if we move back to Floripa.

Anywhoo, so c-section. I can't go into labor, but I can't schedule the c-section...WHAT???!!! Well, the next week, it looked like, yes we need to schedule. It was Wednesday and Dr. Marcos wanted to schedule for Friday. We asked if it could be Thursday.

Wednesday night I thought I would go into labor. Thursday at 6am. on the way to the clinic, I started having contractions. 7:30am I was in the surgery room getting ready...weird to be coherent knowing without "pain" I am going to see my baby soon...and being fully aware that my whole body is being opened.

8:04am Keelie Ani was born. I felt good. Despite not being able to deliver a normal birth, all around this "birthing" experience was better than that of Zeph. I was not exhausted, nor did I have migraines from the anestesia and I could stand straight by day 2!

Anyway, I know it has been nearly 3 months, but thought you might be interested nonetheless.
